Discover Life, Lore & Legends in the Thousand Islands

nhance your trip to the 1000 Islands
with a visit to Photo of the Centrethe Heritage Museum located
adjacent to the Gananoque Boatline on the shores of the St. Lawrence River.

The Museum provides the visitor with an inviting setting to reflect on the history of the area. The building is reminiscent of the original islands cottages and fabulous hotels that were built during the Golden Era.

In the spacious exhibit halls, visitors will find dioramas, videos and interactive displays designed to educate and entertain.

Learn about the formation of the Islands and the UNESCO designated Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve with its unique flora and fauna. (www.fabr.ca) Then walk in the footsteps of the First Nations people, the early settlers and voyageurs and the combatants in the War of 1812. Visit the Golden Era of Castles and Cottages and the river highway of the past. The Museum mounts a new Seasonal Exhibit each year reflecting the local history of Gananoque drawn from the artifacts of the region.

After a guided or self-guided tour, visit our lookout tower to view the magnificent St. Lawrence River and the Admiralty Group of Islands. Remember your visit with a gift or memento from our Canadiana Gift Shop.
