Silk, the Luxury Fibre

A special presentation provided by the Cataraqui Guild of Needle Arts. 

  • See different species of silk cocoons and fibres. 

  • See silk reeled from cocoons and spun into yarn.

  • Learn about Sericulture and how the silk gets from the cocoon to our hands as fabric or embroidery thread.

  • See and feel types of fabrics, threads and yarns from silk and learn about its characteristics and wonderful qualities.   

  • Explore and experiment with silk!

Antique Samplers

A special presentation provided by the Cataraqui Guild of Needle Arts. 

Lianne lives in a one room schoolhouse built in 1897.   She is an artist, antique “school girl” sampler collector, reproductionist and cross stitcher.  She rescues old antique “school girl” samplers that are in poor condition and brings them back to life.  See part of her collection and find out how she reproduces these antiques and take on a new life.

Admission is by donation.

Intro to Bobbin Lace
